The Frankford Transportation Center (FTC) replaces the
existing Bridge-Pratt Terminal with a modern intermodal
transportation facility that dramatically improves the transfer
of passengers between rail, bus and automobile. The Terminal is
the northern terminus of the Market-Frankford Subway Elevated
Line (MFSE) that serves approximately 50,000 passengers daily.
It is one of the most important locations on the entire SEPTA
system in terms of generating revenue and processing passengers.
The terminal is also a focal point for the local community and
the construction of the FTC served as a catalyst for the
redevelopment of the area.
The modernization was accomplished under six separate
projects beginning in 1998 and ending in 2004. A SEPTA revenue
operation was maintained throughout the construction. The
challenges of this project involve the careful integration of
the various projects necessary to execute the construction as
efficiently as possible and maintain SEPTA revenue and
non-revenue operations at the Bridge-Pratt Terminal. Equally
important is the coordination of construction with other MFSE
projects to ensure efficient completion of all Blue-Line
projects with minimal interruptions to revenue operations. |
