The work completed under Contract No. WW-06-2003, Walt
Whitman Bridge, Steel Painting includes the removal of existing
lead based paint by blast cleaning (SSPC-SP-10 near white
metal), and application of new high performance coating system
to the Philadelphia deck-truss spans (4 spans), the Philadelphia
twin girder simple spans (21 spans) and the two lower layer
interior cells of the Philadelphia Tower and Gloucester Tower.
The project includes construction of containment, blast cleaning
using recyclable or expendable abrasives, construction of debris
netting over roadway traffic and marine terminal activities
during construction and dismantling of containment, and
collection and disposal of hazardous waste.
The project also includes maintenance painting of the
Philadelphia multi-girder spans (14 spans) and seventeen (17)
approach overpass bridge structures in New Jersey and
Pennsylvania. The work of maintenance painting involves removal
and collection of all loose paint using hand tools, power
washing and collecting all paint debris, power tool cleaning of
corroded steel, spot priming of cleaned surface and application
of two layers of coating.
The Team’s Construction Monitoring Services includes on-site
coatings inspection and documentation, cost and schedule
control, preparation of change orders and progress payments,
coordination of contractor submittal reviews, review of
certified payrolls and response to Contractor’s requests for
information. The team is also responsible for conducting the
bi-weekly project control meetings, preparing meeting minutes
and responding to all Contractor correspondence.
The Delaware River Port Authority is a bi-state agency of the
State of New Jersey and the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. It
owns and operates four major toll bridge crossings of the
Delaware River, including the Benjamin Franklin Bridge, Walt
Whitman Bridge, Commodore Barry Bridge and Betsy Ross Bridge. |
